Local Artisans Go Online With Midwest Craft Fair

Roseville, Minnesota, February 19, 2003 - See you at the fair! That's what three women in Minnesota hope will happen. 'See you at the fair' is the tag line for www.midwestcraftfair.com, a new internet store featuring arts and crafts by midwest artisans.

Craft fairs, while still a fun experience, are seasonal and in some areas, hard to find. With the Midwest Craft Fair site, customers will find arts and crafts made by artisans they may have seen at their local craft fairs. They will also see items by those artisans who choose not to participate in craft fairs. Midwest Craft Fair allows customers to shop at their convenience. "With this difficult economy, this is a fun and easy way to support artisans that operate as small, local businesses," says Laurie Carr, Midwest Craft Fair's president.

Annette Magnuson, who leads up marketing asks, "Have you ever found a unique item at a craft fair and a week later wanted to purchase another one as a gift? By offering their work on the internet, artisans are available to their customers at any time. In addition, featuring items on the internet frees up valuable time for the artisans to be doing what they really love - their crafts." Annette is not only one of the creators of Midwest Craft Fair but one of their artisans, too.

Annette and Laurie, along with Dana Thompson are the minds behind the fair. All three have strong backgrounds in technology and business. Together they designed and built the Midwest Craft Fair site. The site has an easy to use interface for the customer and special business tools for the artisans. These unique features differentiate Midwest Craft Fair from other craft sites. Dana, the group's technical lead, says, "The one area we did not tackle ourselves is the actual financial transaction processing. For site security and customer safety, we partner with Authorize.net and Wells Fargo."

How are the artisans reacting? "I have been approached by several other groups wanting to sell my items but this is the first time I said yes. Midwest Craft Fair is a high quality site and I am proud to be associated with it. I really like the marketing materials they sent me and when I looked at it from a customer point of view, I found it easy to use - very 'user friendly', as my son would say", says Jan Lynn, an artisan from Wisconsin featuring her unique copyrighted cattail wind chimes on the site. Jan's advice to her customers and fellow artisans? See you at the fair!
